a quick note on equalizers

I remember people saying things along the lines of “don’t tweak the equalizer settings, listen to music the way the producer intended for it to be played.”

there’s like 100 things (literally) wrong with that statement. i’ll start with a few..

the drivers, resistances, etc. inside every single earphone and headphone are different.

sound drivers (if involved, which they usually are) greatly change the way things sound. my equalizer settings using audacious2.1 on ubuntu9.10 totally did not apply to audacious2.3 on ubuntu10.04, most likely due to sound driver.

these two reasons are enough to warrant user-level modification of sound settings..

oh yeah… and everyones’ ears are different.
